2021 Awards Eligibility & Nomination Process

For work done in 2021, I have my first novel, Machinehood, as well as several short stories and editorial effort that are eligible for nomination in the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards, among others.

First, a note for those reading this who aren’t industry insiders: Anyone who buys a supporting membership or higher for the 2022 World Science Fiction Convention (held in Chicago) can nominate and vote on the Hugo Awards. Memberships currently start at $50 (prices will increase sometime next year), and you can register here. Nominations usually open in January.

The Locus Awards are also open to all and are free, though votes cast by Locus Magazine subscribers have more weight. These nominations have not yet opened, but keep an eye on locusmag.com for that announcement, and subscribe if you want to up on the latest news and reviews about science fiction, fantasy, and horror literature.

The Nebula Award nominations and voting are only open to members of SFWA, a professional organization for people in the speculative fiction industry. The nominating period has already started and will end in February. Note that if you are a SFWA member, you can often find eligible works to read for free via the member site.

On to the list of my publications and editorial work for 2021 . . .

For Best Novel / First Novel: Machinehood (March 2021, Saga Press, Science fiction)

For Best Short Story:

For Best Editor / Best Editor, Short Fiction: please nominate as “Mur Lafferty & S.B. Divya,” for our work as the co-editors of Escape Pod

For Best Magazine / Best Podcast / Best Semiprozine: please nominate as “Escape Pod, edited by Mur Lafferty & S.B. Divya,” for our work in publishing short science fiction in text and audio at escapepod.org

Thank you for considering my work for the 2022 awards season! Time is precious, but we can always use more voices in the nomination and voting process, and that includes yours. You can find collections of other people’s eligibility posts here and here.
